Debbie Miller
My name is Debbie and I'm 33 years old. I have lots of different
interests and activities. I like music, reading, movies, horseback
riding, skiing (I ski better than I walk) and camping with my
family. I also like to go to concerts and the theatre when I can
afford to. I have a deep love for animals. I have both a cat and
a dog, Jade and Max, but my favorite wild animals are whales,
dolphins, tigers and wolves.
I have cerebral palsy. One of the biggest challenges I have with
cerebral palsy is balance. I need something to hang onto most
of the time. Stairs are an obstacle but as long I have a railing
to hang onto, I'm fine. Another challenge of mine is movement.
I deal with my balance by keeping active, for example horseback
riding, bowling, skiing and camping. I also exercise. It's a great
way to improve movement and balance and to meet new people. I
have been weightlifting off and on for the last twenty years and
yoga for two years.
I do a lot of charity work and volunteering. When the Calgary
and Alberta Cerebral Palsy Associations needs volunteers for an
event, I'll help. I also volunteer at Calgary Humane Society.
In the future, I would like to increase my independence, keep
active, make new friends and even date a little.
