Community Education & Awareness

The CPAA
Our speakers provide presentations and workshops to schools, businesses, government, and organizations throughout the province. The aim of these presentations is to create awareness of cerebral palsy and those affected by it, to sensitize the community to interacting with people with different degrees of disability, to educate organizations about inclusive practices, and to foster support for the CPAA.

For more information on presentations offered, please contact Kimberly at 780-477-8030 or via email in Edmonton.

World CP Day

Starting in 2012 and going forward, the first Tuesday in September will take on a whole new meaning across the globe. Tuesday September 4, 2012, will be the first annual World Cerebral Palsy Day. This will be a day for 17,000,000 global citizens to come together to raise awareness on a local, national and international levels in a collaborative effort to make a difference in the lives of those living with cerebral palsy and their families.

This worldwide awareness initiative aims to shed some light on the perceptions in various countries that people with disabilities are ‘taken care of’ by the government and do not need financial support from the public. This worldwide initiative by partnered CP agencies, which includes organizations in Canada, USA, Australia, England, Scotland, India and many more, are joining forces to raise the level of awareness and understanding through this collaborative celebration of World CP Day.

Information on cerebral palsy awareness activities can be found by visiting the “What’s Happening” section of the website, or by contacting one of the CPAA offices. Learn More >

Kids on the Block
The Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta-Edmonton is proud to announce its partnership with the Glenrose Hospital’s Volunteer Department, to bring the eager minds of the Edmonton Elementary students: KIDS ON THE BLOCK!!!

This fantastic awareness program, which features 3-4 foot puppets, is coming to a school near you to bring awareness about Cerebral Palsy. This fun and exciting opportunity is looking for a few strong people, (as the puppets are heavy) who have a few hours a month, during the day, to volunteer their time to be the puppeteers, can project their voices far and clearly, and who are dedicated to bringing the message of equality to all the young minds. A vehicle is required and training and support is offered.

For more information, please contact Kimberly at 780-477-8030 or via email.
