CALGARY

Children Programming

Splash Time Aqua Therapy for Children               Ages: 2-17

Cerebral Palsy Alberta offers four 6-week sessions of Splash Time Aqua Therapy for Children a year. This program provides aquatic therapy techniques to help your child achieve their rehabilitative goals through fun activities. Under the direction of a certified Aqua Therapist and with the support of volunteers, our sessions focus on each participants' unique goals. Their activities are modified to suit their specific needs.  Each individual receives one-on-one attention in a group setting. This 6-week program is hosted in a warm water pool to increase the benefits of Aqua Therapy.

 

Saturdays: 3:00 - 4:00 pm

Location: Vivo for Healthier Generations, 11950 Country Village Link NE, Calgary, AB

Cost: $190.00/6-week session

 

Early Intervention Therapy Program      Age: 18 months – 5 years old

Early intervention therapy is vital for children with developmental delays or disabilities, as up to 90% of a child's brain development occurs by age 5. During this critical period, the brain forms millions of new neural connections every second, creating the foundation for learning, communication, and social skills. The rapid growth and adaptability of the brain in these early years make it the ideal time to address developmental challenges, helping children build essential skills and maximize their potential. Our group programs are specifically designed to support this crucial phase of development, ensuring children receive the tools and guidance they need to thrive during this pivotal time.  Classes are open for children with all disabilities in the early stages of diagnosis.   

The CPAA Early Intervention Therapy program focuses on a the following therapies: Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy.

Adult Programming

Music Therapy for Adults          Ages: 18+

Cerebral Palsy Alberta offers four 12-week Music Therapy sessions where participants learn, listen and interact with a variety of song, genres, and instruments within a group setting. Individuals are encouraged to choose songs, sing along, and play instruments in a supportive environment. Music Therapy allows for self-expression which increases self-confidence. Valuable social connections are fostered through in-person interaction.

Art FUNdamentals Adult Art Program                Ages 18+

HAVE FUN THROUGH NEW CREATIVE AND SENSORY EXPERIENCES!

Cerebral Palsy Alberta offers four 12-week Sessions in our Art FUNdamentals Program. Instruction in this program is by two amazing Calgary artists who provide us with endless creative projects and allow our participants the creative freedom and self-expression in their artwork in a supportive environment. Participants explore a variety of materials and artistic techniques such as pencil on paper, acrylic on canvas, sculptures using wood, plaster, and clay. Individuals experience a sense of accomplishment when they complete a project. Valuable social connections are fostered through in-person social interaction.

Aqua Therapy for Adults               Ages 18+

Cerebral Palsy offers four 6-week Sessions of Aqua therapy for Adults a year. This program provides rehabilitative exercises through aquatic therapy techniques combined with WATSU® techniques to help promote increased range in motion, mobility, and circulation. Under the direction of a certified Aqua Therapist and WATSU® Practitioner, parents/caregivers are taught how to hold, interact, practice stretching exercises, and gentle massage techniques to achieve goals. Participants' activities are modified to suit their specific needs. Each individual receives one-on-one attention in a group setting. The program is hosted in a warm water pool to increase the benefits of Aqua Therapy.

Gleeful Gardening          Ages18+

Cerebral Palsy Alberta offers two 12-week sessions in our Gleeful Gardening Program.

Our Spring Session sees participants selecting seeds, sowing and maintaining a garden with a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers.  Participants take part in activities that stimulate thought, encourage creativity, exercise the body and promote awareness of the outside environment.  All outdoor activities are weather permitting and when we are not able to be outside, members participate in garden themed crafts or field trips. Individuals are encouraged to implement learned skills in their everyday life as they will be given the option to receive seeds and plants to take home and care for.  This increases their sense of accomplishment, responsibility, self-esteem and improve mental health.

Our Fall session sees participants maintaining a garden with a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers.  Harvesting the gardens is an integral part of this session. They are able to enjoy the Fruits (and Vegetables) of their labor. Participants take part in activities that stimulate thought, encourage creativity, exercise the body and promote awareness of the outside environment.  All outdoor activities are weather permitting and when we are not able to be outside, members participate in garden themed crafts or field trips.  This program increases their sense of accomplishment, responsibility, self-esteem and improve mental health.

EDMONTON

Children Programming

All Stars Adapted Gymnastics Program           Ages: 5-16

Cerebral Palsy offers two 8-week sessions of All Stars Adapted Gymnastics a year. This adapted gymnastics program is all inclusive with the goal of providing a recreational outlet for children with physical and/or developmental disabilities. Each class is designed and instructed by a Physical Therapist and will include therapy components. Children will be assisted by volunteers under the guidance of the Physical Therapist. This program is run in a group setting and takes place in a fully professional gymnasium. Participants are supported by volunteers during each class.

 

Wednesday: 5:30-6:30 pm

Location: South Edmonton Gymnastique, 5140 67 Ave, Edmonton, AB

Cost: $280.00/8-week session

 

Dance Without Limits   Ages: 4 - 18

This program allows children with disabilities to truly feel like dancers. Each class is tailored to the special needs of these children and is facilitated by a dance instructor with support of physical therapist. This program combines physical therapy with the opportunity to experience something new and is sure to boost your child’s confidence and self-esteem!

Children will learn different dance styles with support of volunteers. Each child will be assigned one on one to a mentor – volunteer who will support each move of the participant, to ensure the children are benefiting from the program. Program session will end with a recital to showcase what the participants learned and celebrate their accomplishments. Program runs in two sessions per year.

Pony & Me Adapted Equine Therapy Program for Children  Age: 4 – 12

The Pony & Me Adapted Equine Program for children with disabilities is an animal-assisted therapy to help children with a variety of disabilities.  This type of therapy uses the riding of horses as an effective way of providing physical and emotional therapy as well as psychological benefits to the children with various disabilities including cerebral palsy, spectrum of autism, visual and hearing loss, anxiety disorder, learning disorder and many more. Children will be assisted by volunteers and under the guidance of an Hippo Therapist  they will be led in physical exercise as well as interacting with the animals.  *Class size is limited. Art Expressions Adult Art Program      Ages: 18+

Cerebral Palsy Alberta offers four 12-week sessions of our Art Expressions Program. This program enables participants to have fun through new creative and sensory experiences. Participants explore a variety of materials and art making techniques, such as pencil on paper, acrylic paint on canvas, sculptures using wood, plaster, and clay. Participants are encouraged to have fun and be creative while experiencing a sense of accomplishment when their projects are completed. Social integration engages participants with others and builds social connections.

Power in Motion (Adult Dance Fitness Program)         Ages: 18+

Cerebral Palsy Alberta offers four 12-week sessions a year of Power in Motion. This dance fitness class is a fun and welcoming movement program for people of all abilities. It combines simple dance moves, gentle stretching, yoga-inspired poses, and strength-building exercises. Activities can be adjusted to meet each person’s needs, helping participants improve balance, flexibility, and strength while enjoying music and movement in a supportive space.

 Music Therapy for Adults          Ages: 18+

Cerebral Palsy Alberta offers three 12-week Music Therapy sessions where participants learn, listen and interact with a variety of songs, genres, and instruments within a group setting. When individuals are encouraged to sing, play instruments and choose songs in a supportive environment, music therapy allows for self-expression and increased self-confidence.

 ComputAbilities            Ages: 18+

Cerebral Palsy Alberta offers four 12-week sessions of each of our ComputAbilities Classes.

In Computer Basics, participants learn the basics of computers in a supportive environment. This program is for everyone who wants to learn how to use basic Microsoft Office programs as well as social media. Participants do not need to own a computer or have any previous experience. Assistive technology is available for use.

In iPad/Tablet Basics, participants learn the basics of everyday iPad/tablet use, to more in-depth learning of applications (social media, keynote, pages, etc.) as well as online banking and shopping. Students learn transferable skills to be used on any device whether it is iOS or Android. The curriculum is adjusted to the individual's knowledge level and needs. iPads and Android tablets are provided for use during class. Participants are welcome to bring their own device.

NORTHERN ALBERTA

Children Programming

All Stars Adapted Gymnastics Program           Ages: 5 -15

This adapted Gymnastics Program is all inclusive with the goal of providing a recreational outlet to children with physical and/or neurological disabilities. Under the direction of a certified coach, coordinated by physical therapist, supported by volunteers, each child will be instructed on activities that will include therapy components. This program is run in a group setting. Participants' mandatory insurance fee for the gymnastics club is included in the registration. Program will end with recital to celebrate the participant’s achievements.

Cost: $260/6 weeks session.

 

Pony & Me Adapted Equine Therapy Camp for Children  Age: 4 – 12
