Celebrating the Heart of Care: National Caregiver Day

Behind every moment of progress, every milestone reached, and every challenge overcome, there is often a caregiver—quietly, consistently, and compassionately showing up.

On National Caregiver Day, we take time to recognize and celebrate the incredible individuals who provide care, support, and advocacy for people living with disabilities. Caregivers are parents, siblings, grandparents, friends, and professionals. They are the steady presence in both the big moments and the everyday routines, offering not just care, but connection, dignity, and love.

Caregiving is deeply meaningful—but it can also be demanding. It requires patience, resilience, and an extraordinary ability to navigate systems, schedules, and emotions. Many caregivers balance multiple responsibilities, often putting the needs of others ahead of their own. Today is a reminder that their contributions matter—and that they deserve recognition, support, and care, too.

At CP Alberta, we see firsthand the impact caregivers have. They are advocates, champions, and partners in building more inclusive communities. Whether it’s attending programs, supporting therapy goals, or simply being there through every step of the journey, caregivers play a vital role in creating possibilities.

We also recognize that caregivers need community. Programs, resources, and spaces that offer connection and understanding can make a meaningful difference. That’s why we remain committed to supporting not just individuals with disabilities, but the families and caregivers who walk alongside them.

Today, we say thank you.

Thank you for your strength.

Thank you for your compassion.

Thank you for the countless ways you show up, every single day.

To all caregivers: we see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you.

This piece beautifully honors caregivers whose quiet strength often goes unseen I was especially moved by how it highlights their emotional resilience and daily sacrifices Even small moments like relaxing with basketball legends as a simple game can offer them a breath of relief They truly deserve more recognition support and time to care for themselves too every single day of their lives with dignity.

We acknowledge that what we call Alberta is the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuu T’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Metis Homeland. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.
