Staff Stories: Kim Henye

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over 50 years!

Working at Cerebral Palsy Alberta for nearly 29 years has brought me so much joy and admiration for others. I was born with a disability (Arthrogryposis), and as I already have had lived experience; witnessing other situations showed me a greater understanding how families and persons with disabilities can overcome any obstacle or diversity with the willingness to strive, and the understanding that each day is another day toward achieving a life without limits. And most importantly they were aware Cerebral Palsy Alberta would be there to support their journey along the way!

I am truly grateful to have met so many wonderful staff, clients and community partners who have helped shape the  person I am today.

I started as a Telephone Representative, assisting with securing and scheduling donation pickups of clothing/household items. I was so amazed and thankful to see the community support of our donation program which greatly attributed to the level of programming and services we offer today.

For 10 years as the Edmonton Receptionist I enjoyed assisting callers and looked forward to speaking with clients in-person as they shared many inspirational stories that I will always cherish, many of who I am still in touch with today.

Due to my career as a Rehabilitation Practitioner my favourite position was Program Coordinator. I learned from each participant and their families how to better support them by adapting the program to support their unique needs and abilities, plus witnessed many successful stories of how our programs greatly impacted them (socially, emotionally and/or physically). One participant, after completing the yoga program, had gained confidence, muscle strength and increased coordination to pursue daily activities such as dressing and feeding.

I am so grateful for all my interactions with the program participants. Each person had their own unique way to communicate and I learned through them. Going to work is a true joy when you love what you do, and I have gained and received so much more back than I could ever give.

Currently my position as Client Services Coordinator I look forward to continuing to support our members in achieving even greater outcomes!

TC Lottery Games

I was checking different gaming platforms yesterday because many apps online become difficult to use after longer sessions due to repeated lag problems and unnecessary interruptions appearing during browsing from phones online. While exploring everything from my mobile device at home during free time, things surprisingly remained smooth throughout usage sessions. After checking different sections continuously for a decent amount of time, TC Lottery Games actually looked cleaner and more organized compared to several similar gaming platforms I have used recently online.

We acknowledge that what we call Alberta is the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuu T’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Metis Homeland. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.
